For six years, garnering national acclaim and now earning applause internationally, tenor Donald George and pianist Lucy Mauro have been conducting their master classes, workshops and other presentations, specializing in such areas as developing musical expression and communication and the art of collaborative performance. Their latest projects include a series of critically acclaimed recordings of art songs for Delos by some of the great but neglected composers of Austria and America, including Mathilde von Kralik, Margaret Ruthven Lang and Joseph Weigl, and an upcoming book for Oxford University Press, Master Singers: Advice from the Stage, which will include interviews with today’s most famous opera singers, with their opinions on vocal technique, stagecraft, performance advice and more.
With a new bright and expressive approach to the traditional recital, incorporating multimedia that includes narration and projected images, they have created concert experiences of unequaled beauty, effervescence and lightness combined with literary, musical and artistic appeal.
Their first CD, Love is Everywhere: Selected Songs of Margaret Ruthven Lang, Volume 1, was selected as “Recording of the Year 2011″ by MusicWeb International, calling it a “delightful, refreshing experience” and “the revelation of the year”. It was also selected by iTunes for their “New and Noteworthy” and by WETA in Washington as their Vocal CD Pick of the Week and was featured in the Journal of Singing in September 2011. The second volume, New Love Must Rise, released by Delos February 2012 has been hailed in Gramophone among other recognitions. Their third Delos album Komm mit mir! (Come with me!): Romantic Songs of Mathilde von Kralik was released in August 2012. Upcoming CDs for Delos include music of Joseph Weigl and songs composed for them by Irish composer Mary McAuliffe.
